LA AIR FORCE BASE PAVEMENT & ROADWAYS

Government Project by Green Building Corporation

(Los Angeles Air Force Base)

This design/build project was to slurry seal and restripe all base pavement, roads, and parking lots. The contract included two pedestrian crosswalk warning systems, as well as some landscape/irrigation repairs. The areas that received the seal and stripe application amounted to more than 900,000 square feet, and were completed in four phases. The contract had many challenges due to the heavy traffic, lack of parking on the base, and the Air Force wanting to do this outdoor project during winter. The contract was performed only on weekends and holidays, with the work hours being from 7pm Friday night to 7pm Sunday night. There was a great deal of communication involved with this project to ensure each phase would be completed and ready for use during regular business hours. GBC had to coordinate with Base Security to ensure they were informed of which phases we would be working. We had to coordinate the removal of vehicles that remained in the work areas and coordinate with the base facilities contractor to ensure that the sprinkler system would be shut off in work areas. GBC had to schedule with the BX and Commissary to coordinate parking lot closures since the weekends are their busiest days. We performed successfully on this project without any incidents or problems.
